Sheperdia argentea Silver Buffaloberry

Sheperdia argentea Silver Buffaloberry
The Silver Buffalo Berry makes a nice barrier between neighbors. A good watering once a month after they are established will make attractive plants full of berries.  These typically grow adjacent to rivers and creeks.  Some are some distance for the water. Below are the fruits.  Each fruit has a small seed and when completely ripe are very sweet.  To harvest, place a tarp under the tree/shrub; much of the fruit will shake off.  Good fall and early winter food for the birds.  Most berries are red, but have some are yellow and orange.

Orange fruit from one of my Silver Buffalo Berry shrub/tree.
Yellow fruit from another one of my Silver Buffalo Berry shrub/tree.
Three colors of the fruit.
A colander full of red fruits.  I steamed and got two quarts and one pint.  It was a tasty drink.

Fallugia paradoxa, APACHE PLUME

Fallugia paradoxa,  APACHE PLUME

This is a no brainer when it come to a conservitive water using plant.  This plant is in front of my greenhouses and the only water it gets is from the sky.  It is finished with its first flush of white blooms and what is seen now is the very light pinkish plumes.  The one here is five feet tall and five feet wide.  There are a few flowers for the rest of the summer.

This shows the plume color.
